For this dress, I wanted a combination of two butterricks pattern designed by Gretchen Hirtch, or also know as Gertie. Initially, I had planned on using this combo for a wedding dress. This was to be a wearable muslin, or test dress. I used the pattern based on the measurements provided on the envelope, however I have a full bust. With a full bust, I should have done a full bust adjustment. The pattern instructions were easy to understand, but I had difficulty understanding the full bust adjustment on Gertie’s blog here. I marched on without the full bust adjustment.
I bought this mum fabric several years ago. Here is a picture of the cut of the bust. It is pretty high in the cup area. It is supposed be mid-breast or slightly lower. The inside is lined and fitted with plastic boning. Here is the finished dress with the midline bust slightly higher. And of course a picture of the designer her self, and I at a convention recently in Oregon.
